Mental Health First Aid

Firm Response Training For Any Crisis Call

If you call into our line at Hollywood Addiction Center, you want to make sure you’re reaching a caring, educated individual ready to help you handle the crisis at hand. That’s why we’ve looked high and low for the right resources to train our team.

We bring together a variety of tools and trainings to set our call center responders up for success, but we want to highlight one of our favorites to give you a taste of what we use to prepare.

It’s called Mental Health First Aid. We believe this skills-based training course helps our call center responders lay a firm foundation so they can best respond to any crisis call they answer.

Making Mental Health Training Accessible

Mental Health First Aid was developed with a specific goal in mind. This program aims to equip so many people with mental health training that this knowledge is as common as CPR.

It makes sense. So many people learn CPR because it could be a potentially life-saving technique. When someone needs it in the moment, knowing CPR right then can make all the difference.

Mental health crises can be just as serious as physical health crises that lead to someone needing CPR. Often, in a state of mental health crisis, an individual needs help — and they need it now.

That’s where we come in. Because our call center responders all go through the Mental Health First Aid training, they’re prepared to step in whenever an individual needs urgent mental health care.

What’s more, peer-reviewed studies of Mental Health First Aid have shown that this training improves mental wellness for the individuals who complete it.

We’re excited to bring this resource to our call center responders so they can best serve the needs of everyone who calls in.

Focuses

During the course of this training, each of our call center responders learns:

  • The risk factors for a variety of mental illnesses and addictions
  • The symptoms of those mental illnesses and addiction types
  • How to identify resources to help the individual, from self-help tools to local professionals
  • How to confidently and compassionately communicate with individuals experiencing mental health distress
